Blue Hope exists to support physically and mentally injured New Zealand Police and their families when systems don’t work as they should.
Part of making that support possible is the Hope Ride, a challenging long-distance cycle designed to shine a light on the unseen impact of service related injury and to help sustain the work Blue Hope does in supporting injured Police and their families.
The Hope Ride is a commitment, a purposeful physical undertaking that aligns with how Blue Hope works: with clarity, determination, and focus on practical outcomes. It reflects the reality that recovery after physical injury, stress, or trauma in the line of duty is often a long road involving many systems and processes.
In March 2026, The Hope Ride will take on the 1,100 km journey, from Wellington to Cape Reinga - an effort that symbolises the endurance and resilience required by police families who carry the often silent burden of PTSD, workplace harm, and the challenge of navigating legal, medical, and administrative systems.
But the Hope Ride isn’t just about distance. Its purpose is practical:
• Raise awareness of the real cost of injury in service, including how it affects those serving and their loved ones.
• Support Blue Hope’s work in helping injured Police and their families navigate ACC, employment rights, GP referral processes, and recovery coordination.
• Connect funders, sponsors, and supporters with a concrete way to contribute that directly underpins the organisation’s ongoing coordination efforts.
Support from sponsors and partners plays a crucial role. Our work would not be possible without organisations and individuals who choose to stand by Blue Hope’s mission, by sponsoring and donating funds to the services that make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
For families affected by service related injury, this visibility matters. The Hope Ride reflects a shared understanding: that recovery is not just about treatment, but about working through multiple systems that affect wellbeing, livelihoods, and stability. And every kilometer ridden reinforces the message that those who serve should not have to face these challenges alone. And we remember those who have lost a loved one to suicide. Find out more.

What stands out is how events like this blend personal motivation with collective purpose, where meaning often extends beyond the activity itself. In that sense Kiwi Treasure https://kiwitreasure.org.nz/ reflects a similar dynamic, where value is shaped not https://www.kiwistreasure.com/ just by outcomes but by the shared context and intention behind participation.
Hi there, I am a Porirua based serving officer & wondering if there is space to join in on the first day of this fantastic ride & messaging? Malcolm Lamont, MLI547
